Math Tests: Practice and Improve Your Skills in Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and More
STAAR reading tests contain varying amounts of authentic published texts. Copyright permission for these texts is obtained from publishers by the testing contractor on behalf of TEA. These copyright agreements may or may not include permission for a wider, non-secure release after testing. If material that was used during testing could not be included in a released test form due to specific copyright permissions, text is provided in the form that indicates where the source material originated.

Released tests are representative of the content and skills included in the Virginia SOL tests and are provided to assist in understanding the format of the tests and questions. Test item sets rather than full released tests are being provided for some SOL courses since the test item bank for those courses cannot support a full release. Raw score to scaled score tables cannot be provided for the test item sets because they do not represent full test forms. Likewise, a raw score to scaled score table cannot be provided for the MC/TEI component of the End-of-Course Writing test because it does not represent a full test form.
The online version of the tests or test item sets is no longer available since the test delivery software has changed. The PDF version will contain the answer key for all items in the test or test item set.
The PDF documents for tests and test item sets released in spring 2015 and spring 2014 show images of the test items as they appeared in an online test format. Due to variability in computer monitors, color in an item may appear differently on one monitor as compared to another.

Here are some free interactive math practice tests to help you prepare for elementary level school math tests. Practice makes perfect and its no different with math. Math is an exercise that is best learned through working through problems to find solutions.
To check out which tests run on which keywords, you can click on any of the secondary keywords, and the tests will be filtered to show to the ones that run on that keyword. Here is a visual representation of that concept.
Each test shows a colored icon on their left side. Most of the tests show a completely solid green or a red-colored icon. But some of the tests like Content-Length, Keyword Density, and Image/Video presence shows partially filled icons depending on the percentage of the score acquired out of the total score assigned to that test.
Also, pay attention to the secondary keywords. In our post, they still appear yellow, which means the post has not been optimized well for them. To see the failed tests, click on any of the secondary keywords.

The personal and educational consequences of math anxiety are great. Math anxiety affects about 50 percent of the U.S. population and more women than men. Researchers know that math anxiety starts early. They have documented it in students as young as 5, and that early anxiety snowballs, leading to math difficulties and avoidance that only get worse as children get older. Researchers also know that it is not related to overall intelligence.

Tactile graphics are required for students using Screen Reader or downloadable .BRF versions for the Grade 8 ELA and all Mathematics tests because the non-textual information cannot be displayed electronically or printed/embossed via a downloadable .BRF file.

Every year, students in grade three through eight participate in the English Language Arts (ELA) and math state assessments. Math and ELA results for 2020 and 2021 are not shown. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exams were not administered in 2020 and were optional for students to take in 2021. The placement test is not the only factor in deciding where to place students. Educators should not base their placements solely on scores but should consider how students worked the problems and where they had trouble. For example, a student might do computation correctly but struggle with word problems. Educators can look at textbook tables of contents and go over parts of a corresponding chapter from previous levels to help students with specific topics. These tests were not designed to be exit tests.
Placement tests for these series are set up to see if a student has mastered the material taught at that level. If a student successfully completes the 2A test, then they have likely mastered the material in 2A, and should take the 2B placement test to see if they have mastered that material. If they do poorly on the 2B test, they could start with 2B. If they do well on the 2B test, they could take the 3A test to see if they have mastered that material.
Unlike the other tests, the placement tests for Primary Mathematics 2022 are set up to see if a student is ready to enter that grade level. So for example, if a student successfully completes the 2A test, then they have are likely ready to begin with the material in 2A, and should also take the 2B placement test to see if they are ready to begin with that material. If they do poorly on the 2B test, they could start with 2A. If they do well on the 2B test, they could take the 3A test to see if they are ready to learn that material.
The online Math Placement Test is an important tool that determines a student's beginning placement level in math and science courses. No course credit is given for the test, but it can fulfill the basic math skills requirement for the General Education requirements. During the orientation academic advising session, advisors use the placement level to determine which mathematics course sequence students should begin during their first semester at Ohio State.
Make certain to note the placement level code (L, M, N, R, S, T, or U) awarded at the end of the exam. To interpret placement test results and determine the best course of enrollment, please review the outline of Math Placement Test scores and their corresponding math course options.Students who feel that their performance on the Mathematics Placement Test does not accurately reflect their mathematical skills, and those students who wish to qualify for more advanced courses, have an opportunity to take a Math Proficiency Exam.
Yes. Please take this test with an attitude of full attention. This one-time test is an important indicator that advisors use to enroll you in math courses. Make sure you are in a quiet place, with good internet, where you will not be interrupted for 75 consecutive minutes. The best result on the test is the score that best reflects your skill set. Not realizing that the test was important is not a valid reason to retake this one-time test.
Yes. If your AP math credit is not available at the time of orientation a placement test is necessary. ALL Engineering students must take the placement test - it is mandatory regardless of credit status. Your academic advisor will use your placement test score to place you in a mathematics course. If necessary you can work with your advisor after your AP credit is validated. Please note that AP credit will not be available to the university until after July 15.
